CART Captioner, Thomas Herman (He/Him)
The “us” in Caption Nerds is mostly Owner/Operator Thomas Herman. A CART Captioner, Thomas is a stenographer with a specialty in near-instant real-time translation for the Deaf/HOH community as well as others who need or enjoy captions.
He attended the College of Court Reporting before transferring to and graduating from the American Captioning Institute and is a National Court Reporting Association professional member. Thomas has been providing CART captions since 2016. Thomas is also a published author of some obscure fiction as well as design blogs and has written for and been quoted by the NCRA's Journal of Court Reporting.
Thomas has also literally written the book: InnoCaption Stenographic Captioners Handbook for InnoCaption, recipient of Inc.’s 2021 Best in Business Telecommunications award along with several other awards.
Thomas consistently captions for agencies of Oregon and Georgia State, as well as several colleges, community colleges, universities, and nonprofits in Virginia, Alaska, Oregon, Washington State, Colorado, and Arizona, and California, as well as state agencies in Florida. Other recurring clients also include large private sector corporations, and various amazingly fun yearly conferences.
Caption Nerds has a wonderful working relationship with a few different American Sign Language interpretation firms and can facilitate ASL services as needed in addition to CART captions.
